The Cáca Milis Christmas Cabaret

Whatever you do coming up to Christmas this year, make sure you finish your shopping in time for the one and only Cáca Milis Christmas Cabaret – rolling up at the Wexford Arts Centre this coming Friday, 22nd December 2016.   As always, hostess Helena Mulkerns, with the inimitable Josh Johnston on piano, have a splendid show lined up with brand new music, dance, a Christmas film, some great fiction, old time music hall ditties and even a puppet show!

Magical as Christmas itself, the marionettes in question will tell the classic tale of “The Little Match Girl”.  We very much look forward to this production from the Life on Strings theatre company, direct from Germany.  Then a little dancing will get you in the mood, as Ellina Shmarkovskaya and Andrew Kenny deliver classic and contemporary tango.

And with no less than four Wexford writers shortlisted for this year’s Bórd Gais Energy Book Awards, we’d be remiss not to celebrate this in our fiction presentation this Christmas.  So we’re delighted to present  Carmel Harrington, who will read from her bestseller (top of the lists since June):  The Woman at 72 Derry Lane.

And you really won’t want to miss the honey-toned Lorraine McColgan who is up next, to perform from Dark Honey – her new album, along with a band of the same name.  Lorraine’s work evokes echoes of Cave, Cohen and Mark Lanegan, with a compelling sound that haunts and pleases.

As our Ciné Sweetcake presentation, we’re proud to present Irish film maker Imelda O’Reilly’s award-winning film, “Eggs and Soldiers”.  A moving, vibrant Christmas story with a difference, the film looks at an emigrant Christmas and the bittersweet trials of a struggling family.

Top of the night there’s a special treat as Secret Life perform a loving and lively tribute to the late great David Bowie.  With their much-anticipated performance coming up in January at The Dublin Bowie Festival, Michael Way and his dedicated crew will give us a very cabaret sneak peek at their take on one of rock’s finest legends.

50% of our Big Christmas Raffle this year (prizes to be announced) will go to The Wexford Women’s Refuge.

Show starts at 9pm – get there early, as seating is limited, or book ahead at:
