About Us

The Cáca Milis Cabaret is a broad, multi-disciplinary event that seeks each month to present a little of each of the Arts throughout its two-hour programme, somewhat in the joyous spirit of old time Music Hall or vaudeville – giving each artist a “turn”– but with a definite emphasis on technical quality and artistic excellence.

It began as an anti-recessionary plot between Hostess and Coordinator Helena Mulkerns and Elizabeth Whyte, Director of the Wexford Arts Centre – and developed into a five-year project that has expanded and developed a broad following in the South-East.  The Cabaret has also performed at various venues farther afield, from Electric Picnic to Limerick Writers’ Centre, to Dinefwr Literature Festival in Wales to Farmleigh House in Phoenix Park!   In 2012, Alexandra Caulfield came on board as Events Manager, and hopes to expand even further with festivals and multi-disciplinary events.

Take one bijou theatre venue, with candles at each table. Add mellow lights across a stage, a singer, a piano player and some unexpected guests.  They’ll represent the whole of the arts – they’ll be talented, well-known, emerging, alternative, hilarious, surprising, and it definitely ain’t Vegas.  This is THE CÁCA MILIS CABARET – originating in the South East, and on the go since January 2009.

It’s a not-for-profit organisation founded, and for several years coordinated by Helena Mulkerns, formerly co-host of The Clumsy Cabaret in New York’s Sin-é Café.  Down the years, piano accompaniests and house bands have included Wexford musicians such as Fintan Cleary, Cyril Murphy and The Featherhead Trio, and performers have included anything from German cabaret to Irish Sean Nós – from comedy spots to new poetry and fiction.   The Ciné Sweetcake section presents new short film and animation from Irish or Wexford film makers, and yes – we even had a dog act!!

Check on our Recent shows and Latest Photos pages to see our latest gig, and the archive page features artists who have performed in the past.

The event is not an “open mike”, but a coordinated evening of guest appearances with a spontaneous flavour – so those who might like to participate in the Cabaret should e-mail their request to:  cabaret@cacamilis.org or fill in our contact form here.  Also visit us on Facebook!
